Who we are

We are in mission to help others
Tanzania’s Maasai pastoralist community has historically lagged behind in sustainable land use and resource management and other aspects of development.
To address these challenges, the Maasai Pastoralist Development Organization-Lareto (MPDO – LARETO) was registered in 2005 (Registration #1384).
The term “LARETO” means “community self-help” in Maasai, reflecting our commitment to participatory approaches that empower Maasai pastoralist communities to lead and manage their own development.
MPDO-LARETO operates in Northern Tanzania, with headquarters in Arusha Municipal Council and a sub-office in the Monduli District, focusing on climate change adaptation, environmental conservation, and economic empowerment for Maasai women and youth.
