MPDO-LARETO recently conducted a transformative honey processing training for Maasai women in Monduli. The training was divided into two phases: theoretical and practical.
Theoretical Training at Selela
The first phase took place in Selela, where participants learned about beekeeping basics, honey extraction methods, quality control, and the economic potential of honey production. This session equipped the women with foundational knowledge crucial for effective honey processing.
Practical Training at Makuyuni Honey Processing Industry
The second phase was hands-on at the Makuyuni Honey Processing Industry. Participants applied their theoretical knowledge in real-life scenarios, engaging in honey extraction, processing, packaging, and addressing common challenges. Emphasis was also placed on maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.
Impact and Future Prospects
This training has significantly empowered the participants, equipping them with valuable skills to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the preservation of Maasai honey production traditions. MPDO-LARETO continues to support these women, fostering economic independence and sustainable development.
